FIA still chasing answers over bizarre Shanghai F1 grass fires
The FIA is still seeking a definitive answer about what is causing the bizarre grass fires which marred the opening day of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix.
The fires, which occurred on the grass inside Turn 7 at the Shanghai International Circuit, led to red flags during the first practice and a delay at the start of sprint qualifying. Initial analyses suggest sparks from cars might be igniting the grass, a theory complicated by recent heavy rains which should have dampened the ground. Additional theories include methane gas from the swampy foundation of the track or chemical treatments on the grass enhancing its flammability. Despite initial checks finding no anomalies, the FIA plans a more thorough investigation to prevent further disruptions during the race weekend. Read more at Autosport
